Building an Ecosystem of Care™,
One Community at a Time.
"I believe every person has the capacity to become part of someone else's healing."
Beyond the Work
When I'm not writing, speaking, or serving others, you'll likely find me enjoying nature, traveling, sharing meaningful conversations with people I meet, colleagues, friends and family, or spending cherished time with my three wonderful children, Sierra, Victoria, and Nigel II.
Let's Build Together
If you're looking for a speaker, trainer, consultant, or partner to help cultivate compassionate leadership and healthier communities, I would be honored to serve alongside you. Together, let's Build an Ecosystem of Care™. In my heart's conviction I believe that healing was never meant to happen alone.
Hi, I am Latoya Hazell-Alcide.
Thank you for visiting Clarity to Heal. Whether you discovered this community through one of my books, a speaking engagement, a training, or a recommendation from a friend, I'm grateful you're here.
My life's work is rooted in one enduring conviction: people flourish when they are seen, valued, and cared for with compassion. That belief has guided my journey through pastoral ministry, healthcare chaplaincy, writing, teaching, leadership, and doctoral studies. It also inspired the vision behind Clarity to Heal, helping individuals, healthcare systems, faith communities, educational institutions, and organizations Build an Ecosystem of Care™ where healing, dignity, belonging, and hope can flourish.
Whether I'm standing beside a hospital bed, preaching from a pulpit, leading a workshop, mentoring a leader, or writing a book, my desire is the same: to create spaces where faith, compassionate presence, and practical wisdom come together to strengthen people and communities.
Education, Chaplaincy & Professional Preparation
I am currently pursuing a Doctor of Ministry in Homiletics at Andrews University, with a research focus on cultivating trauma-informed faith communities. My doctoral work explores homiletics beyond the traditional pulpit, considering how the proclamation of the gospel can also be embodied through compassionate presence, spiritual care, meaningful encounters, and faithful witness. I am particularly interested in how we communicate the love and hope of Christ across diverse cultural, healthcare, community, and spiritual contexts.
I am a North American Division Endorsed Chaplain, I have completed a three-unit Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) residency, and completing my fourth, providing spiritual care to patients, families, and healthcare teams through crisis, grief, trauma, illness, end-of-life experiences, transition, celebration, and moments of profound hope.
I am also a Certified Trauma-Informed Coach through The Centre for Healing, a credential that further strengthens my ability to integrate trauma awareness, compassionate presence, resilience, and whole-person care into my work with individuals, leaders, and organizations. My additional professional preparation includes training in:
-
Trauma-Informed Care and Leadership
-
Emotional & Spiritual Care
-
Spiritual Care Provider Training
-
Youth Mental Health First Aid
-
Crisis and Disaster Spiritual Care
-
Nonprofit Leadership
-
Leadership Development and Organizational Care
Together, these experiences have equipped me to serve with theological depth, cultural humility, trauma awareness, interdisciplinary collaboration, and compassionate presence.
A Journey of Grace
Born and raised on the beautiful Caribbean island of Saint Lucia, my journey has been one of extraordinary joy, profound challenge, and remarkable grace. As an immigrant, I have experienced seasons of waiting, perseverance, and uncertainty. My path has included years of living undocumented, navigating chronic illness and multiple spinal surgeries, personal loss, discrimination, professional transitions, and moments when the future seemed unclear. Yet through every season, God has faithfully transformed pain into purpose. Those experiences have not diminished my hope; they have deepened my compassion. They continue to shape the way I accompany patients, families, leaders, congregations, and communities, with the conviction that healing often begins with presence before solutions.
Serving Across Cultures
God has graciously opened doors for me to serve people across cultures and continents.
Through 4 Real Women International and other ministry opportunities, I have served women, children, families, leaders, and faith communities throughout the United States, Saint Lucia, Jamaica, Costa Rica, Panama, and Botswana. One of the most transformative experiences of my life was traveling through Europe on the Protestant Reformation Tour. Walking where courageous reformers once stood became more than a history lesson. It became a deeply personal encounter with God that renewed my calling and further grounded my sense of purpose. These experiences continually remind me that while our cultures, stories, and spiritual expressions may differ, there is something deeply human that connects us: we all long to be seen, valued, heard, and loved.
Teaching, Leadership & Equipping
Whether through classrooms, conferences, leadership retreats, mentoring relationships, workshops, or the written word, I am passionate about equipping others to lead with wisdom, compassion, courage, and purpose. I mentor men, women, youth, and emerging leaders, coach ministry and organizational leaders, facilitate strategic planning and vision-casting conversations, and help leadership teams think intentionally about healthy, collaborative cultures.
My work often focuses on strengthening communication, encouraging intergenerational collaboration, developing compassionate leaders, and helping organizations consider how their systems and cultures affect the well-being and belonging of the people within them. My experience spans healthcare, pastoral ministry, nonprofit leadership, communications, education, spiritual care, and community engagement, allowing me to bring together practical strategies with faith, leadership, and compassionate care.
Writing, Speaking & Thought Leadership
Writing and speaking are important extensions of my ministry of presence.
I am grateful to be the author of several books, including Connect Four, Hot Tea, Water My Soul, 180 Degrees, and I Will Rescue You!, with additional works currently in development. Through speaking engagements, workshops, books, articles, and emerging educational resources, I explore themes including spiritual care, grief, trauma, compassionate leadership, faith, resilience, belonging, organizational well-being, and the ways we can become part of one another's healing.
Clarity to Heal
Clarity to Heal brings these different streams of my life's work together.
At its heart is Building an Ecosystem of Care™ a developing framework for helping people, leaders, healthcare systems, faith communities, educational institutions, and organizations cultivate cultures in which healing, dignity, belonging, and hope can flourish.
Through speaking, training, coaching, consulting, writing, spiritual care resources, and leadership development, Clarity to Heal creates opportunities for people and organizations to explore what compassionate care looks like not simply as an individual act, but as a culture. I believe care is not only something we provide.
It is something we build together.
And I believe every person has the capacity to become part of someone else's healing.
